Responsivity news at the frequencies over 0.7 THz
Fast sub-THz detector, porduced by TeraSense offers nanosecond response time for the bands from 50GHz to 0.7THz with reasonable sensitivity an NEP. Its passive mode of operation ensures ultimate ease of use and versatility. The detector is sensitive in a wide frequency range though its frequency response is not continuous but consits of multiple bands. Positions of the peaks in the responsivity curve are tuned at the manufacturing stage to suit clients' needs.
Thanks to our colleagues from Tokamak Engineering Center (UK) we have received the responsivity data of our fast sub-THz detectors (spectral range 50-700GHz) at the frequencies over 700GHz.
The following detectors were measured:
The measurements of V/W responsivity were carried out with an optical modulator (with 100 Hz modulation) at 0.89 THz and 1.5 THz frequencies. Laser power (~50mW) was measured by callibrated receiver with 0.5% accuracy. The laser beam with Gaussian profile was around 6 mm in diameter, therefore, the real responsivity of the detectors is considered to be 3 times higher than it was measured in the center of the laser beam.
The good news is all of them detected 1.5 THz power. However, the response was quite different from one detector to another. The winner is detecor #C. It showed a record responsivity of about 0.12 V/W, which was 4 times higher than measured at 0.89 THz. Cross-polarization sensitivity was about 10% for all the detectors.
